- Physical Examination
- • Lymph node enlargement in the neck or in the region above the collarbones.
- • Enlarged liver or another mass in the abdomen.
- • Signs of a mass in one lung such as decreased breath sounds, noises in the lung that are not usually present, or
- areas of dullness when the chest is tapped with the fingers.

- Blood and Other Tests
- • Sputum examination for malignant cells .

- Imaging
- • If a chest x-ray shows an abnormality, this does not establish a diagnosis until some tissue is obtained and
- examined under the microscope.
- • CT scans of the chest and often the liver and adrenal glands.
- • Sometimes CT or MRI scans of the brain.

- Endoscopy and Biopsy
- • Fiber-optic bronchoscopy with brushing or biopsy.
